Senior Civil Litigation Attorney
Alderton Hemphill & Peer seeks senior attorney with at least five years’ experience in civil litigation and insurance law. Candidate must have courtroom experience and excellent verbal and writing skills. Candidates with trial experience preferred. Coverage Litigation Attorney
This is a full-time hybrid position based in Santa Barbara, California, with flexibility for remote work. Alderton, Hemphill & Peer is looking for an insurance coverage attorney to join its team. The attorney will be responsible for handling a variety of insurance coverage matters related primarily to homeowners insurance policies, auto insurance policies, and commercial general liability insurance policies. The work includes coverage analysis, drafting coverage opinions and reservation of rights letters, and providing claim handling advise to insurance clients. There is also the opportunity to be involved in the litigation side of the firm’s insurance coverage work including declaratory relief and bad faith litigation.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in legal research, writing, and drafting legal documents, including coverage opinions and dispositive motions
  • Experience in insurance coverage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex coverage issues and legal risks
  • Ability to manage multiple files and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills for client interactions, negotiations, and court presentations

 

Law Firm Billing Specialist
The Law Firm Legal Billing Specialist is a full-time hybrid role based in Santa Barbara, CA, with some work-from-home flexibility. This role is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and processing client invoices, ensuring billing entries are accurate, compliant with firm policies, and aligned with client guidelines. Day-to-day tasks include entering time and expenses, updating billing rates, resolving billing discrepancies, and coordinating with attorneys and staff to clarify billing details. The specialist will monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding payments, and support month-end and year-end billing activities. The role also involves maintaining organized billing records, generating reports, and assisting with process improvements to enhance efficiency and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Experience with legal billing, time entry, and invoice preparation in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong proficiency in billing or accounting software (e.g., law firm billing systems), Microsoft Excel, and general office productivity tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and ability to reconcile billing discrepancies and accounts receivable.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with attorneys, staff, and clients on billing matters.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple matters in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality of client and firm information.
  • Prior experience in a law firm or legal services setting is preferred; familiarity with LEDES formats or e-billing platforms is a plus.
